In this special Zoom@Noon, Rabbis Teller (Sr. and Jr.) will discuss the topics: understanding the context and history of Torah law and lore, denominational pluralism and theories of revelation, and using literary techniques to reveal God's wisdom.

Rabbi Dr. Gerald Teller is Rabbi Ranon Teller’s father! He grew up in Flatbush, New York and is a proud graduate of Brooklyn College. The Hillel at Brooklyn College changed his life when he met his teacher and mentor, Rabbi Norman Frimer. He also met a Jewish song leader, Judy Freedman, who became his wife. They've been married for 57 years.

As a top student and one of “Frimer’s boys”, Gerry was inspired to enter JTS Rabbinical School and study with Dr. Abraham Joshua Heschel, Dr. Martin Buber, and the world-class teaching faculty at JTS. When he completed his studies, the war in Viet Nam was raging. He was recruited into the U.S. Army and served as a chaplain in Georgia. His first rabbinic post was as an Assistant Rabbi and Educator at Conservative flagship Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield, Michigan. While serving as a pulpit rabbi, Rabbi Teller studied at Wayne State University and received his Doctor of Education (EdD) degree. From there, he entered the field of education, first as the Superintendent of United Hebrew Schools in Southfield, Michigan, and then as the Director of the Board of Jewish Education in Chicago, Illinois. He rounded out his career as the Head Rabbi of the Solomon Schechter Day Schools in the Chicago area and as the Rabbi of Skokie Valley Synagogue.

Upon retirement, Rabbi Dr. Gerald Teller fulfilled his life-long Zionist dream, and now lives in Jerusalem with his wife, Judy, along with many of his Israeli grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
