Congregation Brith Shalom presents A Musical Tribute to Stephen Sondheim: featuring Hazzan David Krohn at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 12, 2022. Celebrate the life and music of the legendary Jewish Broadway composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim, one of the titans of musical theater, in a special concert featuring Hazzan David Krohn and pianist Andreea Mut. 

With shows like West Side Story, Gypsy, and Follies and legendary songs like Send in the Clowns and Being Alive, Sondheim changed the course of Broadway forever.

It will be an afternoon of music, interspersed with stories from Sondheim’s incredible life. Known for razor-sharp wit, soaring melodies, and beguiling lyrics.  Sondheim passed away on November 26, 2021, at 91 years old.

Come experience the genius of this Jewish-American hero at Brith Shalom on Sunday, June 12 at 3:00 PM.

About Hazzan David Krohn:
David Krohn has proudly served Congregation Brith Shalom as Hazzan since 2015 and Director of Philanthropy for Houston Grand Opera since 2013. Trained as a Cantor by his late father Rabbi Philip S. Krohn OBM, and holding a master’s degree from Juilliard, David has enjoyed solo engagements with the New York Philharmonic, debuts on stages in over forty opera roles with companies around the world, and solo performances in all four theaters of Carnegie Hall. In 2005, David began a series of Yiddish, Hebrew, and Jewish-themed concerts, continuing his father’s legacy by sharing Jewish music with audiences across the United States.

About Dr. Andreea Mut:
Dr. Andreea Muţ is a prolific collaborative pianist based in Houston, TX. She has performed recitals throughout Romania, France, Spain, Colombia, Mexico and the United States, and won numerous prizes in national and international competitions in her native Romania. Dr. Muţ holds the keyboard chair for ROCO Houston, serves as staff pianist and vocal coach at the University of Houston, organist at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church, Houston, and pianist for the Grammy-winning Houston Chamber Choir. Dr. Muţ has been a Shigeru Kawai Artist since August 2021.
