Enroll in a Weekly Farm Share from Plant It Forward Farms

Plant It Forward is a Houston nonprofit organization that provides urban farming business opportunities to resettled refugees. We farm using only sustainable methods at our four urban farm locations. We harvest and deliver fresh produce 52 weeks a year and every purchase directly supports the livelihoods of resettled refugees (our farmers) building their lives here in Houston.

Our Farm Share program allows customers to subscribe for a season of fresh produce, and pick-up their vegetable share on a weekly basis at a convenient neighborhood location like Brith Shalom!

Learn more about the farm share program.

Brith Shalom's farmer is Toto Alimasi (photo by Amy Scott).

Alimasi is originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where he was a high school French teacher and a human rights activist. He and his family (to include his wife, PIFF Farmer Fatuma) spent many years in Uganda after being forced to flee the DRC, and it was there where they learned market farming techniques. They were granted resettlement in the U.S. and arrived here in 2011. Alimasi speaks English, Swahili, French, Lingala, and Fuliiru. What he most loves about Houston is “the welcoming people and the community around my children’s school.” His favorite thing about farming is to see the culmination of his hard work through harvesting and sharing a meal of food he grew himself with his family. His favorite crop to grow is okra! (Fun fact: Alimasi means ‘diamond’ in Swahili).

Enroll in a weekly farm share! The cost is $23.00 per week for a Petit Portion (5-6 items) or $34.00 per week for a Grand Portion (8-11 items). Plant It Forward delivers to Brith Shalom every Sunday. Shareholders may pick up their farm-fresh produce between 9:45 AM and 12:15 PM.
