Tikkun Olam

Tikkun Olam Team

Congregation Brith Shalom has begun a new initiative, the Tikkun Olam Team, whose purpose it is to enable congregants to come together to do community service projects.  Our hope is to have projects which continue throughout the year.

According to the Torah, all human beings are created in God’s image.  As Jews, when we assist those in need, we enable the spark of God within each person to be illuminated and bring Godliness into our world.  All are invited to be a part of this holy task.

The world stands on three things: on Torah, on the service of God, and on acts of lovingkindess.

Pirkei Avot 1:2

As part of our new Tikkun Olam Initiative, Congregation Brith Shalom will be conducting collections benefitting local charitable organizations.  Each month, we ask you to consider donating specific items in the Tzedakah Box in our lobby, which will be collected and delivered to the designated organization.

April          Canned goods (kosher or non kosher)        Meals on Wheels

You can make a difference in the life of a home-bound senior.

Brith Shalom is holding its annual Passover Canned Food Drive to benefit the ERJCC Meals on Wheels program. Please pick up a bag from the table in the CBS foyer, fill it with canned goods (kosher or non-kosher), and bring it back to the Tzedakah Box in the foyer after Passover. This does not have to be Passover food, but food that will be used after the holiday for Meals on Wheels clients. Please check expiration dates before donating canned food. Please do not bring anything in a jar.

Suggested food: single serving, easy to open items such as: canned tuna, canned soup, canned or plastic cups of fruit, breakfast bars, juice boxes, peanut butter and jelly.

If you have any questions, please contact Laurie Silverblatt.
