Yiddish Classes Fall 2020

Yiddish 201: A Beginning Language Class
When: Tuesday evenings, beginning September 15, 2020, 7:00pm to 8:30pm

NOTE: NO CLASSES ELECTION NIGHT 11/3 AND THANKSGIVING TUESDAY 11/24.
Where: Online from the comfort of your home via Zoom. (PC, tablet, or smartphone required. Headset recommended.)
Cost: $150 for 12 classes. The required textbook, purchased separately, costs approximately $50.

CBS and Yiddish bay Nakht present a continuation of our successful beginning Yiddish class. New students who are able to read and write with the Yiddish alef-beys are invited.(Email yiddish.meetup@gmail.com to verify your knowledge level.)

The Yiddish 201 class will be taught remotely by Noah "Noyekh" Barrera.

Noah Barrera is a Yiddish educator, translator, and writer. He has been the executive director of the League for Yiddish in New York, as well as Yiddish Coordinator at the Workers Circle and has taught in the YIVO-Bard Summer Program. His writings have appeared in the Yiddish Forverts and Afn Shvel. His academic translation of Abraham Rechtman’s memoir, Yidishe etnografye un folklor, which describes in detail Sh. Ansky’s Jewish Ethnographic Expedition, is soon to be published by Indiana University Press. He is currently writing his first Yiddish novella, Der nekhtiker tegnik (The Grave Whisperer), which is running as a serial in the Forverts

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the class was held at Congregation Brith Shalom. Future classes will be held there when it can be done so safely.
