Moments of Transcendence: A High Holiday Workshop
Sunday, September 8, 2019 • 8 Elul 5779
10:00 AM - 12:00 PMThe High Holiday machzor is a microcosm of Jewish thought throughout Jewish history. Its prayers and poetry are designed to enable us to rise above the day-to-day of our lives, to engage in introspection and reflection, to repent and goal set, and to emerge refreshed. Metaphors flow through the text, including judgment and the Book of Life, G-d's kingship, Memory, Annulment of vows, and a re-enactment of death.
Join the Brith Shalom clergy for a morning of exploration of several of the key liturgical texts which guide us through this transformative process and their meaning for our lives.
Schedule:
10:00-10:55 AM.
"Behind the Machzor: Actualizing the Potential of the High Holy Day Prayer Experience"
Rabbi Teller & Hazzan-in-residence David Krohn
11:05 AM-12:00 PM.
"Confronting Our Sins: Ashamnu, Al Cheit, and Meeting G-d's Expectations"
