Mitzvah Day-January: Midtown Terrace

Sunday, January 5, 2020 8 Tevet 5780

11:15 AM - 1:30 PMMidtown Terrace - 4640 Main Street

In January, Brith Shalom will launch a new monthly program of service projects around Houston.

At our first Monthly Mitzvah Day project on January 5, we will visit Midtown Terrace for a New Year’s celebration with the veterans living there. We will sing with Rabbi Teller and raffle off prizes for the veterans. Come and visit with the veterans and thank them for their service. If you have books to donate, bring them along.

Directions to Midtown Terrace - location - 4640 Main Street, Houston.
If you are coming from the shul area, get on 610 to Hwy 59. Take Hwy 59 toward downtown to the Main Street (Museum) exit. Get off on Main Street (there is a light there) and turn left onto Main Street. Go under the Hwy and through the light; right after the light turn left into the Midtown Terrace parking lot.

We will be at Midtown Terrace by 11:15 am to set up for lunch at about 11:30 am. We need about 10 volunteers to serve lunch. We will have a second group of volunteers putting out the raffle gifts and giving out tickets to the veterans. (about 8 volunteers).

We also need singers as the Rabbi will be leading us in a sing-a-long about 12:45 pm for 20-30 minutes.. Volunteers can also visit and schmooze with the veterans. If volunteers have children (6- 10) or grandchildren, the children can pull the raffle tickets for us about 1 pm (raffle to start between 1- 1:15 pm) and we will probably be finished about 1:30 pm.

Also if anyone has books they were going to donate, they would be welcome to bring them for the veterans. They love books.

The 2020 line-up of monthly projects will be announced shortly.
