Shabbat Study Group

This fourth Shabbat Study series and the first of the new synagogue year began August 17th.  The series is devoted to the book of Kohelet.  Aaron Howard leads the series which as usual takes place after kiddush (about 1 pm) on the third shabbat of each month.  We will look at the content of Hebrew wisdom comparing it to, other Middle Eastern and modern wisdom literature.

Starting on August 17, we will be begin our fourth Shabbat Study series which will continue into the new synagogue year. Aaron Howard will lead the series. The sessions will, as  usual,  take place after kiddush (about 1 pm) on the third shabbat of each month.  The series will look at the Book of Kohelet. The first session will situate Kohelet in the context of other Middle Eastern and of modern wisdom Literature

Inspired Book Club

The CBS Inspired Book Club will meet in the Board Room following Shabbat Services and lunch.  We are reading from Halakhah: The Rabbinic Idea of Law, by Chaim N. Saiman. The book is available through Amazon and other book sellers.  Reminder - you can read the book as an e-book but you cannot use the e-book in the synagogue on Shabbat.

Tikkun Leil Shavuot

On Erev Shavuot, Congregations Brith Shalom and Beth Israel once again join forces to present this stimulating, multi-session, adult education program.

Two Synagogue Collaborate To Celebrate Shavuot

With origins among the mystics of Safed in 16th century, the custom of Tikkun Leil Shavuot celebrates the first night of Shavuot with learning. Two Houston congregations will join together on June 8 to present a modern holiday study program.
