Parenting Jewishly
Wednesday evenings, March 23, 30, and April 6 at 7:30 p.m.
At Congregation Brith Shalom
Prioritize your family's values through a Jewish lens and explore how to incorporate them into daily life during these three sessions with Rabbi Amy Weiss and developmental psychologist Dr. Margaret Jelinek Lewis. Session One (March 23) will be of interest to all parents. Session Two (March 30) will focus on emotional and physical development of children ages 8-12, and Session Three (April 6) on adolescents, ages 13-18.
Session 1: Jewish Values for 21st Century Parents
This discussion will help prepare families for proactive discussions about values. We’ll present some basic Jewish middot (values) and suggest how to make them relevant at each developmental stage
Session 2: What it Means to be a Tween
Catch them before puberty hits full force! You might have heard the term; tweens (or pre-teens) have their own set of concerns, help them learn to sort out those concerns and peer pressures. They are in the process of making big choices. We’ll discuss how to help them make good decisions.
Session 3: Your Teenager Knows More Than You Do! (So they think!)
Teens are a different story. They have even more questions than the younger kids, but the difference is that the teens won’t ask you. They get part of the story from their friends and much of their information and influences from media. Dr. Margaret Jelinek Lewis and Rabbi Amy Weiss offer guidance on parenting teens through puberty and some insights on the adolescent brain.
