Five outstanding scholars will headline Yom Limmud, the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston’s Bureau of Jewish Education’s annual day of learning, on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010. The scholars – Rabbi Elie Kaunfer, Michael Yohay, Dr. Miriam Bodian, Rabbi Zvi Grumet and Dr. Steven Windmueller – also will speak at five Houston host congregations during the preceding Shabbat, through grants awarded by the BJE.
David Barish, representing the Barish family as Shabbat Limmud chair, said he is pleased with the caliber and diversity of scholars for this year’s Yom Limmud. “From top-tier rabbis to a filmmaker for the Israeli Defense Force, this year’s scholars will bring a variety of unique insights and perspectives to our community, broadening the level of dialogue that will take place at Yom Limmud and Shabbat Limmud,” Barish said.

By AARON HOWARD -- Published 11/12/2009 in Jewish Herald Voice
Kids are natural theologians. That’s because they ask the big questions. “What children do is try to make sense of the world,” Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson said. “They are constantly trying to fit it all together. That’s what theologians do.”
Dean of the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles, Rabbi Artson will speak at the Jewish Book & Arts Fair on “Why Should You Care? Embracing Inclusion” on Nov. 15 at 10:15 a.m. Rabbi Artson also will be the scholar in residence, Nov. 13 and 14 at Brith Shalom synagogue.
Although many children ask the right questions, the problem is that most adults tend to give kids different answers to religious questions than they do to other types of questions.
