A three-part series on Sunday mornings:January 24 and 31, February 7, 11:00 AM Since the sixth day of Creation, humans have inhabited the Earth - using it, protecting it, and sometimes abusing it. This class will examine the intersection of ecology and Judaism through Jewish texts that outline our responsibilities toward our planet and Jewish responses to environmental issues. January 24: Young Judaea shaliach, Gil Yaari, will address ecological issues in Israel. By training, Mr. Yaari is an environmental educator. Before coming to Houston as shaliach, he taught at a special environmental high school in Sde Boker. He will address many of Israel's most pressing environmental concerns as well as her environmental success stories. January 31: Rabbi Teller will explore traditional Jewish sources which help us understand Judaism's approach to ecology, from bal tashchit to tikkun olam. February 7: Jennifer Handy, coordinator of the JCC Tuv Ha'aretz CSA (community supported agriculture), will address environmental issues specific to food, food production, and "eco-kashrut." |
